![]() MORGANS ON THE GULF is a club made up of people in the Houston-Gulf Coast area who own and drive Morgan Cars as well as Morgan enthusiasts. The club, which was organized in the early 1980's has about 50 members and is one of approximately 13 regional MOG's (Morgan Owners' Groups) in North America. MOGMOG is an affiliate of the Morgan Sports Car Club of Great Britain, Peter Morgan, President.
Today, Morgans are offered with the Rover aluminum V-8 engine of approximately 4.5 litres in the +8 Model (not for the faint of heart), BMW 4.4 litre in the Aero 8 Model, the Rover 16 valve 4 cylinder engine in the +4 model and a Ford ohv 4 cylinder engine in the 4/4 Model. Morgans have always used currently-available engines and as such, their choice of engine may transition at any time. The +8s are only available as two-seaters, but the 4 cylinder roadsters are available as two-or four-seaters. The two authorized Morgan dealers in the U.S. make modifications to bumpers, lights, doors and rear suspensions to meet the U.S. safety regulations. Since 1994, all new Morgans have catalytic converters that permit gasoline operation in the U.S. The waiting list for a new Morgan in England is just over 5 years, but the U.S. agents can deliver a new car much faster. WHERE TO BUY A USED MORGAN: National classified ads are found in sportscar magazines, and advertising magazines such as Hemmings Motor News, available in most larger bookstores. Dennis Glavis of Ferrari of Los Gatos, California is just one of the dealers who specialize in used Morgans. Used Morgans of the 1960's are generally more plentiful because U.S. EPA and DOT regulations slowed Morgan imports to a trickle after 1970. Parts are available from the factory, the U.S. authorized agents, and U.S. parts specialists. Several Houston-area shops restore and service Morgans. MEMBERSHIP DUES for Morgans on the Gulf Morgan Owners Group are $40.00 which include a 2003 MOGMOG calendar and any Mogazine newsletters produced. MOGMOG is your link to a worldwide Morgan brotherhood that celebrates the oldest privately held auto manufacturer in the world and one of the very, very last British independent car companies still in business. Through our newsletter, Mogazine, we try to keep you up to date with the latest developments at this venerable, but still exciting and vibrant company, which continues to produce and export throughout the world the last and greatest English sports car.
